Goals of Onnyo Theater:

As a drama group our goal is to explore and exploit with fidelity the potential of drama as an art form. We intend to creatively evoke the color, rhythm, humor, pain of human existence. For, we firmly believe in the powerful flow and connectivity between art and life. Our aim is to broaden the scope of the autotelic aesthetic medium of drama through enactments of a wide gamut of motifs and issues– emotional, social, political, philosophical, and so on. We would like to stage plays, both classical and modern. Our productions may also include original plays written by members within our group and translated and adapted plays from languages other than our vernacular. Through drama workshops and more exposures to and experience of acting, we hope to retain and further improve both our individual and collective potentials as performing artists. Onnyo Theater also aims to engage in collaborative projects and stimulate the community with consciousness of drama that is so intrinsic to the Bengali culture. These objectives shall hopefully celebrate, educate, enrich understanding of ourselves as individuals and foster shared experiences with the community.
